So, for whatever reason I’m a bit uncomfortable around guns. Nothing crazy, I just get a little nervous when people are handling them close to me. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I think that I should probably just learn more about guns and how they work. I am thinking that if I know what I am doing, I won’t be freaked anymore! I have no desire to kill anything, I just want to know how to shoot, load and unload a gun, etc.

I moved to San Diego and loved it…but I ended up having to relocate for my job! I could not find a decent teaching job in San Diego. The school system is a complete mess, and all three of the teachers I met while I was living there got lost their jobs because of budget cuts. Things did not look good..so I had to take a teaching job in Los Angeles!
I’m thrilled to report I’m actually doing this, and I can’t believe the time has almost coming! It felt so crazy to buy a one-way ticket! I hope I dont go through a ridiculous amount of security! I just read the entry about the guy who was let down by San Diego..I hear exactly what he is saying. I definitely weighed the pros and cons for a long time on this decision. San Diego is not a perfect place, but it is just the change I am looking for right now. I have the advantage in that I have many friends that already live there and a brother that lives there, but I am still making a large move (from Connecticut!) I visited several times before I moved. I went for a week in November, February, and April over the past two years. I also lived there for a months of July and August of this summer. I have an advantage being that I am a teacher so I was able to do this without any problem getting off work. The summer is paradise. The beach, the sunsets, the margaritas, fires on the beach, so awesome. But it can’t be one big party all the time. There has to be a down time. I can see how people who are locals would be upset because there are soooo many tourists and transplants who invade this beautiful city, and I will be one of them. But, I am so excited to meet new people-the diversity is so great. In the time I spent there, I rarely met a local, I met nothing but transplants. It is a little disenchanting because I think people move there with this notion of what Southern California will be like, and then reality hits that a lot of people have the same idea as you and this is not a fantasy, it is still real life! Some other down sides to san diego is parking is insane. Unless you want to pay constantly for parking, you have to be patient with finding spaces…think mall at xmas time. The other thing is there are a lot of street people and I do worry about crime, like cars being broken into and stolen, people getting stabbed…I walk around PB a lot by myself and I dont feel scared or anything, I feel safe, but I am just a little more guarded then at home where there is virtually no crime. You just need to be street smart. I also go out a lot, but I believe in the buddy system! Although I love going to happy hour you wont find me walking down a dark alley alone at night. Another thing that must be said is yes, it is very expensive to live there..but I dont know if you have ever lived outside the NYC area, fairfield county, CT, but it is very expensive here too! So i feel like I am used to that. Well thats all for now I guess…I will be sure to update how it goes!
