Way too much going on right now to even try making a weekly commitment to something like this.

get a haircut
the cut. 2 years ago

I’ve been wanting to change my look for a long time for numerous reasons: (1) I’m bored with my current style, or lack thereof; (2) it’s become a bit annoying to have such long, bushy hair; (3) I want to make this change before I go to college to avoid sudden changes in the midst of college; i.e. a fresh start has been offered to me without particularly many complications and I’d like to make use of that; (4) I could definitely go with a style that actually complements my face; (5) I’m growing older and I associate my long hair with my childhood. It’s time to move on.

That said, there are some complications, such as I would like to try out bangs (and I believe that bangs would suit my face better) but my hair is slightly wavy and frizzes easily so cutting it too short might cause it to puff up and thus ruin the bangs. Researching online I’ve come across the concept of “face framing layers” for those who don’t want to go for all-out bangs. I think I’ll only find a solution once I actually consult with a hairdresser. :\

find purpose (read all 3 entries…)
An idea. 2 years ago

The American college admissions process finally made it clear to me how broadly-spread a person I am in terms of talents and interests. I have always seemed to feel that I do not belong to our time; I think I belong in the past. The conflation of these two observations has lead me to aspire to become a renaissance man. (Woman.) Nowadays the education system is geared to specialization in one field, but not only do I myself not conform to this cookie-cutter future but I don’t think it’s good to stifle diverse interests. Perhaps it might be arrogant to think myself a renaissance man, in the vein of the great Leonardo, but I do not think it is arrogant to aspire to such an ideal. Interestingly enough one of the random quotes spewed out on the right hand side of my 43things was a quote by Leonardo da Vinci linking the idea of work and life purpose:
“Make your work to be in keeping with your purpose.”

And of course, being a renaissance woman, I would work on a diverse number of creative, intellectual, possibly even scientific projects.

It’s a possibility. Purpose: to become a renaissance man?
