And as for the entry below mine, the general rule is that if you owned something before you decided to become vegan, it’s understandable to keep using it afterward. But there is simply no excuse for going out and buying anything leather (or wool, or fur, etc.) after the fact, if you want to call yourself vegan. Making this decision is about the lifestyle change. It’s about bettering your mind, your body, and the world, by abstaining from the abuse of animals and our earth’s resources. It’s by NO means difficult to find clothes that look nice and expensive that don’t involve needless slaughter.
As for the “cookie rant”, obviously everyone who has eaten animal by-products and decided to become vegan should understand how difficult it is to stop consuming them all at once. But it’s far from impossible. If I were you, I would really educate yourself as to what goes into the food that non-vegans eat on a day-to-day basis. Frankly, it’s disgusting, from the fecal matter to the puss to the body parts…
When you know where these products come from (wearing an animal’s skin on your feet, or putting something that contains its urine in your mouth) it becomes much easier to break the “habit”.
With all that said, I give much love and gratitude to anyone who works to better the world, especially if doing so by becoming vegan. Every contribution helps and counts, but so does every setback.
