How I did it: We had to postpone due to illness, but I used an article at www.thingamababy.com/baby/2007/12/cookieparty.html for many general tips, and got a few suggestions from 43things folks and coworkers who throw parties like this every year. I made a double batch of cookie dough (too much) and a double batch of frosting (too much), and had lots of candies, colored sugar, and sprinkles to add. Guests offered to bring things and mostly ended up b… Read how I did it…
A recommendation for ‘Fancy Nancy’ for Noodle struck a chord with both kids. Q asked several times if we could make his room ‘fancy’. The result above. (I’d post more photos, but have never figured out how to post more than one photo at a time.) Both kids are thrilled. Ribbon harlequin pattern on the ceiling, two pink tulle swags, polka dots and circle mirrors, beads and ribbon… I should add that last night Q had to get ribbon cut from around his neck that he’d knotted there. So if you try this at home, consider that possibility. (I’ve now tied them to the ceiling ring and I think they’ll be hard to remove for a small child.)
We thought J might be working on the actual date, so we got my mil to sit for us and went out to the same diner for dinner. Had fun, and ate too much.
I really feel like we’re neglecting this goal, but we’re also looking at a lack of money, so going out for dinner/movie/etc is less appealing. I’m sure we should be able to come up with cheap ideas that are free, but the weather has been lousy, I get up early and am sleepy in the evenings and J is back into rehearsal tonight.
In theory I believe it’s worth the effort. I don’t feel that distant from J, but I would like to feel like we see each other better.
The other day I mentioned that I keep my email up at work in part because I’m lonely, especially when it gets slow at work, and he acknowledged that he hadn’t realized that.
