for a boy who wouldn't wear it

i learned to knit during a quiet summer in missouri. i knit one thing and one thing only: a red scarf. i sent it as part of a birthday package to a boy i loved; it is probably still sitting in a box somewhere with him. but i don’t regret the knitting or the loving.
