I love them. I love to make them as much as I love to wear them. Despite the fact that they are insanely heavy…what’s not to love???
(And yes, that’s me in the photo, which was taken by Ashley Johnson. ^^)

How I did it: I started out trying to find videos on YouTube, but they were mostly for long hair, and mine is barely past my chin. Thankfully, a friend of mine bought the book, "Vintage Hairstyling" for me for Christmas, and I was able to manipulate some of the styles to work with my hair length. After a few months of trial and error, I think I can do them fairly well! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I started out by doing a couple of amateur photoshoots with some photography students in some of the costumes I had made. When I had finally gained some confidence in front of the camera, I found a local photography studio that specialized in cheesecake pin-up, so I booked a spot for their Halloween shoot. It was great fun, and the photographer was really helpful in getting me into good poses. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Getting a job helped allot. Nothing that I really wanted to do could have been accomplished without having the money to do it. Now that I'm finally employed again, I'm getting rid of my debt and saving up for my travels. I hope to be on the road in Scotland by the end of April 2011, and then head out across the world. Reading through a couple of online tutorials on Maiko makeup and hairstyle, I remembered just how much I love it all. The elegance, the fantastically beautiful kimono, the myriad of talents, what’s not to love?
Horray for getting my money back! :D That’s another chunk of change that can go toward next year’s backpacking. ^^
