I started learning german to communicate more effectively with my colleagues, and later to meet a language requirement for b-school. Now that I’m done with both, I wouldn’t be actively learning the language. But I guess it would always be there somewhere in the background.
A new classmate invited me to coffee last thursday. I am not sure if it went well. I think I may have made some cultural faux pas. He’s Italian and I am not familiar with european culture, especially the meet-and-greet part. Not a good start. Better familiarise myself with the different cultures of the world.
I going to lunch with an old friend on 5 Jan 2006. And I intend to meet another ex-colleague during that week, though the date has not been confirmed. Feels good to take the initiative and get a warm response :)
Just discovered the live streaming of Deutsche Welle online. I think I’ll watch german TV instead of listening to german radio from now on :)
I have a confession to make. I chickened out of a Christmas party last Saturday. It was a party organized by my german language teacher. The week before, though only one other classmate was going, I psyched myself to go. Gotta start somewhere I thought. But when Saturday came, this classmate had to attend a friend’s wedding and could not come to the party. I panicked and chickened out as well.
Shucks! This is really hard.
Cleaned my blades last night. What a tedious job! I cleaned everything, including all the bearings. Considering the fact that my blades are less than a month old, the amount of sand and dirt is amazing.
Looks like this is going to be a regular affair if I am to continue blading so often. Not fun.
After getting that big ugly gash on my knee, I thought I had better invest in some good kneepads. Though I like blading, I like to dress in skirts and dresses too.
So, I went to the skate shop yesterday and picked out a nice set of kneepads, elbow pads and wrist guards. They were the most expensive in the store, but I figure they well worth the investment!
On a whim, I invited two colleagues to lunch today. Though we have known one another for almost two years, this is the first time I bought them lunch. And it feels really really good! I could do this more often.
Being in a all-consuming 10-year relationship, I feel that somehow I have lost the ability to befriend another person. I do feel quite isolated and feel the need to make new friends. But where do I start? How to go about it?
Another attempt to practice my german, I started a blog. My first entry had less than 10 lines but it was sooooo difficult to write.
Junked my antique powerblades and bought myself a new pair yesterday. What a world of difference it makes! I felt more confident and in control instantly.
My next goal is to learn to brake confidently :D
I’m listening to german radio over the internet. Hopefully, that will get me comfy with how the language sounds. But what I really need is someone to converse with.
