Finally, I’ve made it to Lebanon. I visited last week from Damascus where I’ve been studying. I loved it just as much if not more than I thought I would. So . . . I changed my summer plans to stay in Beirut for a whole month. I’ll be there for all of August. I want to get a job at one of the international schools now more than ever!

How I did it: I always do well getting up early at the beginning of the school year but then the snooze button quickly becomes irresistible. This year though I got into a new routine. After I got ready for school I had about 20 minutes to spare so I sat down at the computer with my coffee and cereal and surfed the internet while watching the morning news. I got so into this new habit that now when my alarm goes off at 6 I know that every moment I stay … Read how I did it…
How I did it: I knew I wanted this particular job and that I was qualified for it so I just applied each summer until I got it. Perhaps the timing just hadn't been right before. Read how I did it…
Ever since I studied in Italy I heard about getting Italian citizenship through ancestry and wanted to see if I would qualify. Every time I looked into it though the whole process just seemed way too complicated. I always meant to get around to it but never did.
Then, I got an awesome roommate who is into genealogy and started the process by finding out that I am eligible due to the timeline of my great grandparents getting naturalized and my grandfather being born. I have since started ordering all the documents that I need to prove my lineage. Once I have everything I will send the application for my citizenship. I figure it should take another month or so to have all the documents.
This is beyond exciting! Not only will I have Italian citizenship but EU citizenship!
I’ve been going to a Meet-Up group for Italian speakers on a fairly regular basis. It’s a good chance to get to speak the language so that I don’t forget. I’m also reading a novel (Come Dio Commande) in Italian and currently working on translating some documents that I’m using to apply for Italian citizenship. My focus is really on learning other languages right now.
