ten days 3 years ago

Ok, i was going to only take one day off a week, which I did on Sunday, but today I just could not get going… I attrribute this to a few factors:

1. I may be overtraining. I can’t help it, I love it. I love this new way of working out at a slower pace, which my trainer has recommended for initial fat burning. So I swim slow, walk slow, use the cross-trainer on slow, and well, I lift weights at a normal speed, but use just medium weights
2. This week I switched to doing 3 sets of 15 on my weights, instead of 2 sets. And I added squats and lunges and such on Monday.
3. This week I decided to lower my calorie intake. As a result, for two days this week (second week), I have been eating under 1500 a day… I realize this might be making me weak.
4. I am not eating enough protein.

I have used my “day off” today wisely by reading up on stuff. This is how I discovered two of the above (not eating enough protein and overtraining). I still believe I can do 1.5 hours of cardio a day, but I think I will go back down to the recommended 2 sets of weight lifting and just 4 exercises a day (my change this week was to double that). And I will have to buy some protein powder and some frozen fruit. I can use vanilla plus milk and frozen berries. Luckily I usually get sick of smoothies, so at least I won’t overindulge, and one smoothie a day will increase my protein and get me to at least 1500 calories.

Also note, I had my first egg-white scramble today. Uh, I need to learn how to do that, what a mess! I had it with some asparagus/garlic for breakfast. Yum!

do a triathlon
one small step for triathlons... 3 years ago

ok, this is it. i am going to lose this weight and be done with it. i see my 70+ year old mother still wishing she were thinner and i think “no, i want to be content with my weight when i am 70. i am taking care of this NOW, not later”.

so, this week I saw a personal trainer and I declared my plans:

A. two months to drop the excess pounds, done by my birthday, mid-Dec. Walk a 5k every two weeks. Cardio and weights 2+ hrs/day x 6 days/wk.
B. two months increase fitness tremendously, mid-Feb. Get bike out and ride, as well as take cycle classes. Add swimming 3x wk.
C. four months train for triathlon: bike, swim, run. Enter at least two sprint level triathlons by June 2007

Do you think I can do it? Will you help me stay motivated? Will you challenge yourself as well?

I finally got started! 3 years ago

This week I have gotten serious about this goal. I met with a personal trainer and she helped map out a training plan. So far this week, the plan is this. Each day:

1.5 hours aerobics, such as treadmill, cross-trainer, etc
.5 hours weight training (alternate legs, back, chest)

So far this week I have exceeded this each day by adding 1 hour aquarobics, some swimming and some water running.

Am I sore? Yes. Am I going to the sauna for a saok? Yes
Am I hungry? Yes. Am I eating right? Better than ever.
