Let the good times roll 3 years ago

I start my first practice/lesson/tryouts on Monday the 13th. I’m doing this alone, so I hope the girls are nice enough and I make some friends. Wish me luck!

One Week Sugar Free 3 years ago

At the end of the day today I will have completed my first week sugar free! Yay!

Quit sugar (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 3 years ago

I don’t drink coffee, I don’t so drugs, I rarely drink, and I don’t smoke cigarettes, and overall I eat pretty healthily except…but I am SEVERLY addicted to sugar. Sure, I will eat chocolate or cookies if they’re around, but I really go for the hard stuff (cotton candy, Pixie Sticks, Fun Dip, and Sour Patch Kids.) I have been known to eat raw sugar and brown sugar by the spoonful, for a quick fix if there is no sweets in the house. Oh and the ocasional bottle of sprinkles. As a child, I remember doing so, as well as sneaking extra Flintstone viatamins.
I was not raised in a junk food family, which may explain my fixation. Sure we had cookies in our cookie jar, but I did not grow up with soda or Fruit Loops in my house. These treats we researved for special occasions, like summer camping trips, or birthdays. I still managed to get my fix. At school my friend who got TWO desserts in her lunch box would give me one of hers. I spent afternoons at friends houses raiding their well stocked pantries for artifically colored fruit snacks, and Little Debbies. And when I was old enough to walk to the 7-Eleven I’d buy and eat 3.00 (that’s 300 candies) worth of penny candies after dinner on summer evenings.
I recent years I have tried to quit and failed. I have tried Atkins (maybe not a good idea, because I am not overweight, but it’s supposed to help you control your bloodsugar.) After 4 weeks (the longest I have ever been sugar free in my life) I freaked out around Easter and dove into a bowl of Reeces Peices eggs. I quit and then I binge. I cut down and then I binge. My boyfriend brought me home some Dodgers cotton candy and I ate the whole bag in one sitting! It was a big bag. I am not pleasant to be around when I haven’t eaten candy in a few days. I go through withdrawels. I have headaches. I give in.
Why I want to quit:
1. I could look better without having to work as hard.(I work out A LOT and I’m not getting any younger)
2. I don’t want to get fat when my metabolism finally stalls out.
3. I’ll stop breaking out and have better skin.
4. No more guilt
5. Sleep better
6. Better mental health (I suffer from depression.)
7. To prove myself, if I can do this, I can do anything!

Today was my first successful day, sugar free. (I will eat fruit or natural sugars) but I am avoiding all artificial ingredients and processed foods in general.

Does anyone who quit successfully know how long it takes to get it out of your system?
