cut my hair short
I barely remember my long hair now! 3 years ago

Before I chopped my shoulder-length hair down to the do I now sport, I did two (in my opinion) critical things: 1) I signed up on http://www.thehairstyler.com/ and “tried on” dozens of different styles. I especially recommend this site because for each style they give a recommendation as to which hair textures and densities the style will work for. 2) I asked every person with short hair whose style I liked who their stylist was. 3) I didn’t go to my cut appointment dead set on one particular style. I let my stylist mix a few of the styles I printed from http://www.thehairstyler.com/ in order to best accentuate my headshape and features.

I LOVE my short hair for so many reasons, but mostly for how incredibly easy it is for me to style. I can get away without blowdrying (which only takes 5 minutes), as I can “style” it on my way to work by simply running my hands through my hair every few minutes until it dries. I don’t feel like I have to do much to look “put together”. It’s also fun to play around with the style as it grows out. I like to wear handbands as it gets longer, and use different products for different effects (ex., slicking, spiking). I think short hair is just as versatile as long hair.

get into Pinecone Research
They led me on! 3 years ago

I was accepted by Pinecone 3 years ago, and was awarded 5 or 6 survey opportunities within just a couple months. I was so excited! Then…nothing. Ever again. : (

speak mandarin fluently
My Plan 3 years ago

I took Mandarin in college for two semesters. I’ve nearly mastered pronunciation, but my vocabulary and listening comprehension are extremely limited. Unfortunately, living in China won’t be an option for me any time in the near future, so my plan is this: 1) study vocabulary daily using “Chinese in a Flash” flashcards, 2) watch Mandarin television (drama and news) daily, looking up 5 new words per day that I hear, 3) dine at my local Chinese restaurant 2x/week and request that they only speak to me in Chinese, 3) hire a private tutor, 4) continue my college Mandarin studies through four semesters. I’m confident that within a few years I will become fluent if I stick to this routine.
