How I did it: Started it right after I got my Master's degree, and it took me four years to finish it. Just presented my doctoral work last tuesday (june 16th), and the examiners really liked it. How I did it: I used to have almost shaved hair, and decided to let it grow - for 4 years, without cutting it. How I did it: My brother and a couple of my best friends are accomplished musician, with their own bands and so on. But they would always get together for some small concerts to celebrate their birthdays, playing only covers, just for the fun of it. And they invited me to sing a few songs with them (twice!).
