How I did it: I did it the hard way. Plunging into it and finding my way around. It's not difficult in the sense of "complex", but rather in the sense of "insane crapload of information to go through, absorb and keep." Rather painful in the beginning. Tcl has a somewhat unusual logic and syntax. But once you get it, everything else seems pointless.
Very clean, practical, thorough, intelligent, versatile and supported by the best programming community in the Internet.
Java takes the glory for being multi-platform, but Tcl beats it hands down. Java just has a lot more publicity.
