Wow. What can I say. I am so priveleged to have been able to attend a wonderful art therapy group today. The therapist was amazing, but more amazing still were the brave souls who in the midst of tremendous psychological pain were able to summon the courage and motivation to come along and share themselves so openly with the group. Their work was an inspiration. I’m profoundly touched.

How I did it: At first I was very strict with myself and actually worked with fewer breaks and comforts than I do in the office, as I almost felt guilty for being in my home environment and I felt that I had to prove myself.I then became more relaxed and found I was struggling to get motivated, and wasting time. After moving into my new flat which had decent internet, comfortable and quiet places to work and a pleasant outlook, I settled into a routine … Read how I did it…
How I did it: I left London to get some space and a change of scene, and to re-examine my priorities in life. I went off travelling for 4 months and spent another 5 months living in Oxford and seeing family and friends. When my boyfriend was due to start an MA in London, I decided I'd move back with him but that it would have to be on my terms and I had a set of criteria:- either a garden, or a park/wood close by- working from home alot more- working a… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I used to try and see multiple people/ groups of people at a time/in one night- this was because I felt if I didn't see people regularly, or said no to invitation, I was being a bad friend. It turned out that a much more rewarding approach for me and for them, was to set aside a whole evening or day to spend with one friend, or one group of friends, and make it really special and fun. Less frequent, but better quality time with my friends … Read how I did it…

I’m working at the Kentish Town City Farm as a volunteer with an art therapy group – not working directly with the animals but also might be helping with an eco build there. The animals are lovely though and it has a real farmyard vibe, right in the middle of Gospel Oak!
I’m currently still reading:
‘Life on Air’ – David Attenborough
with a break to read:
‘The Making of a Therapist’ – Louis Cozolino
For the list:
‘Art as medecine – creating a therapy of the imagination’ – Shaun McNiff
‘The Guardians of Attention’ – Eckhart Tolle and Patrick McDonnell
‘One to One: Self Understanding through Journal Writing’ – Christina Baldwin
