Wow, high schoolers, I feel for you. High school is a rough tough place and requires the survival capabilities of an interpol agent, but, in the end, it will be worth it, and yes, you WILL get to the end. So, enjoy it to while you can! Ten years after my own high school graduation, I say, you are young adults, and capable of making some very sound decisions. Don’t let anybody underestimate that, or tell you you have it good, because high school can be a bitch and some things may be easier in your life now than they will be in the future (like hey, your parents probably pay your rent) but that doesnt mean that what you are doing it easy. It’s not, so be proud of yourself that finishing is your goal. Good work. So, my top-ten advice to you in the meantime, while you are working at acheiving that goal is to 1) get good grades and get into college, where you will have the time of your life (I promise) 2) don’t take yourself to seriously, and get away with as much as you can. Goof off as much as possible, organize some pranks, skip class, go smoke cigarettes under the bleachers. I’m serious! Live it up while you can, just as long as you still get good grades. 3) don’t be a recluse—participate in sports,or theater, or government, or chess club or whatever. It couldnt hurt. 4)recognize that the kids in the popular click, really don’t feel as good about themselves as they think they do. They hate high school just as much as you do. And, they are totally insecure. 5) don’t do drugs. Its a bad habit. 6) get involved with something outside of school—take a dance class or volunteer or something. Write a novel. Get your life rolling 7) be nice to your parents. They love you. Invite them to school events. Let them be proud of you. 8) date. a lot. you dont have to sleep with anybody, just hang out with members of the opposite sex and kiss a lot. Date somebody who isnt part of the cool clique, and who isnt too popular, or hasnt had a lot of dates: these are the people that in ten years from now will be doing amazing, interesting things with their lives, will have travelled the world, will be millionaires, and you will want them to remember you. Date people who are popular, too. You might as well before they get all boring and fat somewhere in the middle of college. 9)If high school really, truly isnt your bag, remember that it’s only temporary, and in addition, there ARE other options: See if your parents will send you to boarding school in London or Switzerland for a year, go live with an aunt in Ohio and get a change of scene at their local high school, switch to a private school, public school or charter school if whatever you are in isnt working for you, or, if you are self-disciplined enough just drop out, get your GED and head straight to college. 10) As my grandad always says: Have fun!

bread

I love making bread. It’s so relaxing. I used to do it all the time. Fridays, for some reason, were best. I reccommend reading a little bit about the chemistry of bread (i.e. what makes a crisp crust etc.) and for recipes, the Tassajara Bread Book is not to be beat, for making some rustic, homey, zen-a-licious eatin’.
I can type

I took typing in high school. Now people tell me, “you type really fast, for a girl” whatever that means.
