Oh, I quite liked this skewed, mythopoetic examination of a small town at the turn of the century. One can definitely see how it influenced both Faulkner and Flannery O’Connor.

Oh, I quite liked this skewed, mythopoetic examination of a small town at the turn of the century. One can definitely see how it influenced both Faulkner and Flannery O’Connor.
I’m fond of Hemingway if he keeps to vignettes, which is why his short stories work for me and his novels don’t (with the exception of The Sun Also Rises). That said, I basically approve of all the description of war; I just don’t like the love story.
Ergh. This is a book that is taught in high school for clear reasons. It’s very obvious why it’s important, but it was a rather tedious, didactic slog.
