How I did it: It was extremely useful to move to a city where I have friends of friends that were willing to help me migrate.I gave myself enough time to plan the move, including getting rid of stuff, quitting my job (gave more time notice), learning about Canada and Toronto's culture, neighborhoods, researching the job market, and so forth. How I did it: i had needed to buy a laptop for about 2 years now. i moved out of the country, got rid of my old gateway one cos it was sluggish and bulky... plus it had +5 years on it. wanted to save to get a new one, but decided to eff it and just charge it to my credit card. its a macbook and its vv well worth it.
