Went on an Alaska Backpacking OE course and it was memorable in that I learned a lot about improving my hard and soft skills. The NOLS folks are very thorough and help you fine tune your leadershp skills while enjoying the outdoors. We had classes, hiked mostly off trail, and it was an overall great experience. I think I will do a semester and maybe summit Denali in a few years.
I’ve done outdoor toproping sporadically and it’s a lot of fun. Indoor is also gratifying in its own way. If you’re into challenging yourself or bonding with other folks (your belayer), then try it out – you’ll see that you have a lot more strength than you initially believe you do.
