Today marked the addition of a Sunday morning session of the Acting Technique and Scene Study Class that I teach with Melissa Kite, this in addition to our successful Monday evening session. This marks a big step toward the realization of the dream. And soon it looks as though we will be moving into a new space, one that will accomodate greater flexibility to our needs for the relaxation and sensory work, and also have room for all of the furniture, set pieces and props that our students need to most effectively apply all that they are learning in technique.

How I did it: Talking in Circles. At dinner the other night with my father and his wife, Suzanne, I mentioned that I was excited to be getting up early the next morning for the first meeting of a men’s talking circle I had started. After explaining to them what a talking circle was, Suzanne said, “So these are old friends of yours?”“No,” I said.“But they’re guys you know really well.”“Actually, no,” I said.Suzanne and my dad looked at me quizzically. “T… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went on the internet and researched sausage making classes in my area. I found one at Huntington Meats, one of the best butcher shops in the greater Los Angeles area. They offer a wonderful class. You get to sample a lot of terrific food, and you leave with a very useful book of recipes. You can read more about this experience in the entry Good Stuff In, Good Stuff Out and see photos of the class, on my blog, First There is a Mountain. I joined 43Things 6 years ago, and used it half-heartedly for a bit, and then not at all. I thought of it often however. Now, following a difficult divorce, and many twists and turns in my life, I decided about a week ago to recommit to this site as a tool to help me pursue goals and dreams, both large and small. And as of now, I have 43 things on my list. Of course, as soon as I finish this entry, I’ll be back down to 42, and I’ll have to come up with another one.
I have started a blog, FIRST THERE IS A MOUNTAIN, dedicated to recording my experiences as I chase my 43 things. You can follow it at http://mountainone.tumblr.com/
This just seems like it would be fun. I’ve made my own beer, and there’s a great sense of pride when you hand somebody a twelve ounce bottle with no label and tell them it’s a homebrew. They take it from you with trepidation Then there’s that tiny whoosh and puff of vapor when they open it and a wonderful look of surpise on their face when it actually tastes really good. So now I think I’d like to do the same thing with hot sauce and mustard. Our fridge is always filled with so many variteties of these things that my wife calls me the condiment king. If I make my own, I’ll feel like I really earned the title.
