I am now trying to get my head round a great book by David Foster called deep calls to deep. It is a guide to deeper forms of prayer and I am finding it thought provoking and helpful. It talks a lot about listening and coming to know the will of god rather than just asking endless things. David Foster is novice master at Downside Abbey in UK. I really like his writing style too. I am also finding that I definitely cannot rush these things, or push myself too hard. Learning to listen is quite an art. I am still noticing reams of resistance inside myself to all of this – perhaps it is good that I am aware of it, maybe it means I may be getting somewhere. Or maybe it just means I am really stubborn!

How I did it: We visited a working monastery where mum went last year and attended the first main service of the day with the monks. We lit candles and said prayers. Then we went for a long winter walk around the grounds - family and friends. Half way round we had coffee and a shot of brandy (because mum loved to do that on her long walks!) and held a toast. We left a card for the monk who helped mum last year and each bough… Read how I did it…
Something in me just snapped and I have cleared out probably 70% of my wardrobe and taken it to the charity shop. Most of the stuff was between 5 and 7 years old, and also bought second hand. Basically this means I have been dressing down and looking shabby for far too long! Enough! Time for a much needed change. I have already been researching what clothes suit my body shape and I plan to start shopping this week.
I have just purchased an American book called Pathfinder about career changes. I find myself getting stopped by lots of conversations in my head about how/when am I going to do this and fit in having children as well. It all feels like a wooly blur at the moment. I plan to work through the book though and hopefully it wont make me more confused!
