This is going to be tough... 4 months ago

but I am finding that I get obsessive/compulsive about this site and then everything else suffers!

Dinner gets later and later….the kids get a bit ignored…not good, they can get into lots of trouble if I’m not exactly aware of what they’re doing at every given moment….two boys, three and five, you can only imagine.

Also….I use this place to really avoid the things I need to be doing….like….my homework!! So…I have to be gone for awhile, at least until school is out. We have so much to do there too, in order to get our rosters full for next fall.

I have a lot to keep me busy, but I will miss you guys! Good luck!

Also, when I get back, I want to put together a team that puts together interesting activities in MATH AND SCIENCE for the kiddos to do this summer, CIGW and CIA007 (especially, but anyone is welcome).

So…see ya! And I hope to be able to check some things off when I get back!

put in a spring garden (read all 2 entries…)
Today... 4 months ago

I put in onions, lettuce (romaine and bibb), broccoli and ….corn???....what was I thinking? Was talking today to someone who said they’d heard put it in now so it’s finished by the 4th of July…someone who doesn’t garden! Had that on the brain and went and did it. Good grief.

This week, the goal is to pick up some strawberry plants, brussel sprouts and asparagus. I also want to get some big tubs for potatoes, the rest of the onions, carrots, and radishes. Going to put those on the deck, also the tomatoes and potted herbs.

Hey, CIA007 Garden Goddess….do you have suggestions for those porch plants. Still reeling over your detailed response about the geraniums. I have more questions about those, but will post over there.

My own kids sort of seem to wander about the classroom... 4 months ago

mine, at least. I kept some sort of tabs on him this week, and here’s what he did….

1. Did a subtraction game and can compute and write simple equations.

2. Wrote his numbers from 1-20

3. Wrote # 1-13 on one of those turtle sheets, cut it out, glued on legs and a head. Did this independently, which spurred a lot of kids on to try this themselves.

4. Cut out his own pictures from a magazine to make an African food chain. Extension from the more controlled project we have laid out.

I don’t know what he really does. Unfortunately, we are still trying to develop our language/math area for some of our older students. They have gotten somewhat cheated due to our lack of experience, but I still feel they are all more than adequately prepared for Kindergarten academically. Socially, perhaps even more so. They have all developed concentration, independence and a love of learning. I feel in that respect, we’ve helped to lay an excellent foundation for what’s to come.

He is so ready for so many things. He and his brother are back into the Greek myths, stories, etc.. again. We’ve started some of Homer’s stuff….the Cyclops and Odysseus makes for excellent listening! Found a really great website www.storynory.com that has great audio for those LONG bedtime stories.
