I learned to play the drums through guitar hero. Now I bought my own set and have played in a couple of corporate events. The great thing about guitar hero is that it is almost like the real drums. Then you just have to learn dynamics when you take up the real drums and you’re all set. Of course, it also helped that I’ve been a musician for quite sometime now.

How I did it: Learned guitar hero world tour first, then bought Yamaha DD65 and connected it to guitar hero. then bought metallica, then bought double pedal, then learned metallica expert+, then played at a corporate event (practiced DD65 and rented a studio for an hour to practice real drums) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_1qgS3-4y0, then bought Roland TD4 and practiced some more, then played a concert at another corporate event =) Read how I did it…
this will be extended by 1 year, it will now be at Feb 2010… we bought a house
I think I have an idea what I want to do:
- Continue to work in a corporate setting for the next 10-15 years
- In parallel, support my wife in her endeavors, and potentially support her to put up our own business
- In parallel, find other hobbies to keep myself sane
- Have 3-4 kids and ensure they live the best life under me and my wife’s leadership
- After 10-15 years, find another job or personal endeavor
- When my children are already working, build my own recording studio and operate it, repair/maintain guitars, and get a regular gig with old musicians like me
