I would like to go on a train tour to several major cities. Chicago should be on the list. Atlanta? Maybe a Canadian city. Travel light, maybe some couch surfing. Take photos, blog, collect some ephemera that I ship home. Visit markets, urban farms, libraries, museums, architectural tours, outsider art galleries, UU churches, internet buddies.

How I did it: First, get yourself a teenager. Then, have the teenager sign up for a big regional youth organization. Then, follow your teenager around to all the events and meetings as a driver, advisor, and/or chaperone. When you go, leave early, so you have time to visit things in your destination city. Voila! You are taking day trips! Read how I did it…
How I did it: By blogging. I started a blog that recording the daily struggle to find the right things to do. I challenged myself to report on various aspects. I found other bloggers that were participating in the Riot4Austerity, the Independence Days Challenge, and various local eating challenges. We trade ideas and encourage each other.I am not "done" with this goal, but I am taking it off my 43Things list. I will contin… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I located my birthmother in California, more than 10 years ago, via the Maury Povich show. A friend in the adoption "industry" hooked me up with the show when she learned I was looking. They found my mother in about 20 minutes - but she refused to be on the show. So, they put us in contact, but no one got to fly anywhere and meet anyone. She and I exchanged letters, calls, and photos for a while, and it was very nice. I … Read how I did it…

I would love to rip this thing down to the studs and start all over, but we don’t have the money for help, and we have only one bathroom, so it can’t be out of commission for a long time.
I need to break it down into smaller tasks. Here are a few:
1. Figure out a solution to the longstanding ventilation and dampness issues. I need to find someone to at least give me advice about what to do, so I can research how to carry it out myself. Gotta stop the MOLD!
2. Set up a back-up toilet and bathing area for when the bathroom is down. This is probably going to be a composting toilet and temp shower in the basement (which is concrete with a drain).
3. Figure out if I have the chops to take out the tub and replace it with a shower.
4. Figure out a budge for materials and pro help with key steps.
To make this happen, I need to do a few things.
1. Assemble a range bag with guns, ammo, eye/ear protection, cleaning kit, targets, stapler, etc.
2. Practice breaking down and cleaning until I don’t need to look at instructions.
3. Find locations/dates for course offering.
4. Come up with money to pay for it and/or join gun club where it is offered.
5. Find eldersitter for mom, if she is still with us.
6. Make sure car is available for course, or find a ride with someone else.
