Learn to play the drums
lessons and place to practice next

After owning an orphan floor tom for several years and looking for for months, I took a plunge to pick up some nice Pearl pieces to match, plus some Paiste and Zildjian cymbals. It has taken a few patient months, but is only lacking some aesthetics now.

It looks cool and sounds cool, but I was rushed at the drum store, and got a white resonant bass drum head that wouldn’t look right live, but should be fine for recording. I have to remember to take my time on such things, even if it is less than convenient for others..

I need to practice rudiments on the snare drum, and work towards getting a place to play. I got some wire brushes (which scuffed the shiny black bass head) and need to get a snare drum head designed for them.. I’ve been jamming with some other guys, and they want me to play bass, but I like the drums too. I’m not sure if I’ll settle down to one or the other.

Happy 4th!

drums

I had a bass drum I was going to build around years ago, but it never materialized. I’ve been buying pieces to put together lately, though. I’m spending too much, although ostensibly it is for more for recording a cd, I doubt if I will want to part with it afterwards or trade down for a cheaper kit.

Piecing it together is not easy, especially when you don’t have the cymbals and drums there to match sound resonance and timbre on eBay. I’ve been learning alot. Check out

I was outbid four times on ebay bass drums, twice on one with a relisting! I’m real close to done now, though, although it seems at times like a video game with all the upgrades and everything involved.

Sometimes I think about leaving just about everything behind and driving out to LA with the drums in tow, especially when I can’t play at my apartment! I might get full practice pads, but that would be about a shared months rent at a practice space..
