HA Rey’s book arrived just the other day. It truly is a lovely little work. I’ve read through it now, and can identify quite a large number of constellations from the illustrations. Unfortunately, the annual week of Irish sunshine just ended.. and this overcast, dull weather hasn’t allowed me to see any real stars.

I began into this the other day. The goal is not to learn pieces I haven’t approached before, but rather, to start playing again, and get pieces I have previously studied to a level where I could perform them for others without sheet music.
I have started with:
Manha de Carnaval- an old jazz standard/ Bossa Nova type thing
Etude No1- a lovely study of arpeggios by Villa Lobos
Well I’ve officially made it through to day seven which is terribly nice. Although, I say that sitting awake in my bed at four a.m. This quitting thing has definitely affected my sleeping. Not much of a problem at the moment, as I just finished college, but it would be nice to be getting to sleep before five or six every morning, and sleeping for more than five hours! I just read up on this and seems its a common experience; supposedly my body is no longer as exhausted at the end of the day without the series of highs and lows it had been subjected to through smoking. I guess I will just have to allow for Time, the great healer, to do its magic.
