I’ve decided that NYC is NOT the place for me. Don’t get me wrong…I love NYC, it’s just that I never really wanted to live there. I was offered an apprenticeship as a tattoo artist and I decided to take the guy up on his offer. When I accepted the offer I didn’t realize that it was a conditional offer. I don’t really want to discuss the condition so as not to give this person a bad name because aside from being a jerk, he is a GREAT artist. I’ve decided that I’m moving to MA to be with my fiancĂ©. He and I have been together on and off for about 5 years and I took some time to reflect on our relationship. We both attempted to move on with our lives but in the end, we always go running back to each other. I turned to God and I realized that this is the best decision that I could possibly make for myself. I haven’t completely erased NYC from my thoughts…it’s only a 4 hour drive from Lawrence, MA and my boyfriend has family that we frequently visit there. For right now I will be working on my more realistic goals and once I excel in those, I will work on getting another apprenticeship so that I can live out my dreams. Wish me luck!!

I arrived March 26th. Everything went smoothly; my grandmother had NO clue that I was going to be there. When I arrived at her door she was pleasantly surprised. I was with my friend Sarah and I hate that it rained the ENTIRE time we were there but honestly, it didn’t matter to me. It was like I had never left…I remembered where everything was as I successfully weaved my way in and out of traffic. Blame it on the rain but the place that I call home looked so poor. Everything was where I left it (with the exception of Plaza del Caribe’s trademark carousel) but it seemed so solitary…so dark and gloomy. I didn’t care…there’s really NO PLACE LIKE HOME. I enjoyed every second that I was there and I had to hold back tears as we took off from San Juan. I can’t wait to go back again…I’m supposed to be going back on the 16th for Las Justas…my fellow Boricuas know EXACTLY what I’m talking about! Wish me luck!!
I’ve done this several times and I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who enjoys it. I thought that my best friend and I were freaks. Although I would NOT advise going anywhere with only $50, it can be done and fun can be found. There have been so many times when my best friend and I have headed to the store to get a pack of cigarettes and ended up somewhere 6 hours from home. We always manage to meet interesting people, see a lot of crazy things and just relax. I’ve only visited about 18 states but the rest are on my to do list. Wish me luck folks! ...and please be sure to have fun while doing this.
P.S. Please remember that cameras are essential for unplanned road trips. The picture that I have left for your enjoyment was of me and my best friend climbing on a gigantic frog in Myrtle Beach, SC. No alcohol was involved (oddly enough) and no animals were harmed while taking this photo.
