find at least one thing each day that makes me happy and record it everyday for a year (read all 169 entries…)
- yesterday I took to the hospital for my Mom, a picture book with beautiful photography, a book of paper for her to ‘draw’ in, a notebook to write in, some pencil crayons, 2 types of puzzle books and a deck of cards, along with a small cute stuffed Cocker Spaniel. Mom used to like to paint, and clearly paint is not going to work, but WHO doesn’t like pencil crayons??
- while at first she was NOT that enthused, I explained Mom this will exercise your mind, and also pass the time, and will help with your recovery. One must use their mind, kind of like exercising the brain! I told her you can play cards with visitors or draw together. It will take your time off the day, and it may just be a bit of fun! She was not that impressed, but gave me a half-hearted ‘that’s a good idea.’ though clearly was puzzled at my odd gifts.
- She must have given this some thought, because within maybe 10 mins, she tried her first-ever word search puzzle (that wasn’t a big hit but that’s ok!!) the big moment was when she clearly stated: ‘I want to draw!” and before long she had a little blue bird drawn (though hard to tell), and then with much concentration, a heart with the words I love you’ printed inside. My God, I think I’ve discovered something – huge!!
I can’t wait to see if and what she has drawn/scribbled or doodled in her book today!
