Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Work in progress

As I had an interview very recently, I knew I needed a better portfolio than just a couple of writing samples.

I didn’t get the position, but it certainly felt great to have the portfolio displaying some of my work! And what was even better, was I completely had fun putting everything together!

I’m sure it will change and evolve over time. A friend said it looked soooo very professional, and I’ll be adding more items to it as I go along!

It’s been a wonderful place to come drop by and write a few thoughts of my world, both good, bad and the challenges I’ve had.
I’ll miss this place, as I’ve been inspired by soooo many others!
I’m happy I found 43things, and I will migrate to popclogs, I’m there now but ‘havent’ found my rhythm there, finding my comfort zone, and how the site works (yet).
I’ll miss this forum, its been a home away from home, a way to gain some perspective, vent on the bad days, cheer on the great ones and everything else in between! It felt pretty damn wonderful to feel the cheers each and every single one!
I thank the people that cheered me and inspired me to try again or to move forward.- for me it meant something very profoundly!

Best of luck friends! I’m itchy_feet on popclogs too, and I intend to visit there on a regular basis!

Life changes, and when one window/door closes, another opens! See you there friends!

stop buying things i dont need.
Need vs Want

From now on, when I go on a shopping outing, I will shop with a ‘list’. (even if it is just a mental one)

I will ask myself – Is this a want or a NEED?

No more – Oh I have to have this, this is such a GREAT deal!!

My new motto – do I need it or can I do without. If in a week I still want it.. then I’ll go get it..

Shopping from a list – what a great concept!! :)

So Close...

I’ve registered for my last 3 classes for the Fall session, in my certificate program! Wow.. hard to believe….. Dec 17 will be either a day of celebration or a major ‘sleep in’!

Feeling proud of myself for first trying ‘a’ course, then going full tilt. It’s been hard at times, working full time and taking courses at night when your over 50.

So many questions, and worries: Can I do this? Will this get me a good job? Am I too old to be doing this? Why did I do this to myself?? (taking 2 courses at one time is not wise – at least for me)

Good grades, and a lot of hard work (for me, as my brain shuts down about 9pm! when I need to be up by 5 or 5:30) but determined to get this certificate..

Eye on the prize! :)

Catching up time...
  • now into week 2 without coffee (I had a minute sip one day to keep the head-aches at bay!) Monumental! I’m now drinking herbal teas, and much much more water!
  • trip to the doctor for my back pain, that once again became a ‘reality check’ of what is actually going on. Much needed.
  • learning to let go of what I cannot change (work wise)
  • self-care…
  • last minute coffee invitation (though it didn’t pan out) it lightened my mood for a moment.
  • eating better. NO fast food at all for a week..
  • sleeping better past few days.. (pain meds can sure help there!)
  • registering for my last 3 classes in my certificate program. Marking my calendar for Dec 17 to CELEBRATE!
  • being proud of myself I just can’t wait for June 26, for my summer break (from school at least!!)
  • sunshiney days and self affirmations.. Be strong. You can do it! Keep your eye on the prize!

Stay in touch with 43 thing friends :-)
So sad

.. I cannot believe this news.. I have gone to PopClogs with the same user name Itchy_Feet. I’m not sure I like it however, it just doesn’t have the same feel as here.. Perhaps it will grow on me???...

I likely won’t go to FB – the secret group, as I have this love/hate relationship with that social media.. I am not convinced that it is the forum for ‘me’....

I’d really like to stay connected to the people here. And many thank yous to those that took time to write messages/comments or simply sending a cheer. There have been so many occasions that that small gesture has meant the world to me! For I have had some tough periods, and 43things has lifted me up when I needed it the most, or motivated me to keep going!

Sad to let this forum go, but I know that with progress there is change, and the trick is to find the best medium for one..

All in all I am sad …. and will grieve a loss as silly as that sounds!

  • window shopping, and feeling better for NOT buying another unneeded purse/shoes/blouse, insert item name _! Exercising self control! I didn’t realized how often I buy, for the WRONG reasons! huge aha moment this week!

May Bootcamp 2014: Making Time for What Matters
OMG I missed a bootcamp (almost)

Even though I had taken a social media breather.. I think this month was one I focussed on getting some things done that needed attending to:

I’m on a week vacation, and I have managed to do some spring cleaning, prepping the garden, organizing some closets/cupboards, and have my car in for routine maintenance…

It feels like when you make a list AFTER doing the items – JUST so you can tick them off! ;) ha!

I will not miss June Bootcamp (as I’m one that needs structure, schedules, to do lists! so that I actually get stuff done!

April Bootcamp 2014: Coming into Bloom

  • LinkedIn profile
  • Volunteer – find a position that will move me forward to ‘bloom’ to what I know I am!
  • Continue with school, and getting great grades
  • building my portfolio!

Success and disappointment too!

I did get the interview, however I wasn’t offered the position. (This in itself was a HUGE feat!)

HOWEVER it taught me valuable lessons, and has made me more determined than ever!

Before long oh yes, I will have a new kick-ass job.. I’m getting those ducks in a row!

March Bootcamp 2014: Blueprint for Success (read all 2 entries…)
Very Simply...

Focus on getting the dream job…...

School – focus on getting the assignments done as soon as I receive them, read materials, resources, get my ‘library’ of tools/books/references started!

Job – do all I can to get my dream job (the posting just came out – and oh man do I want it!!) Networking, and getting my ducks in a row!

Doing the extras that are going to make this new career a reality -

For me now that is enough for this month!

I do think the smoothies did help me with the energy level though!

Feb 10-16
  • new do, and many compliments… really different and short!!!
  • a rough latter part of my week, from a difficult coworker that expressed(?) their frustration of a situation, I handled 2 confrontations as professionally as I possibly could (and had me a good cry several hrs later!
  • mega retail therapy session to ease my frustrations of the day/week!
  • 2 understanding people that were completely supportive of a very awkward situation! (walking in on my mini-meltdown!)

  • my gals from knit group – the best! one in particular I’m getting to know better, and has offered some GREAT ideas on managing time
  • total excitement at starting my classes again in only TWO!!! more sleeps!! And I’m lining up my school supplies: binder, manual, notebook, pens, highlighter! :)
  • jewelry making! Like I need more projects?? :) but so much fun!
  • new colour and highlights! my hairdresser is a magician! She totally made my week ‘end’ better! I can’t afford to do this often, but this week seemed like the lift I needed!

Notes: Finding the good in last week was tough – it’s not easy to have a confrontation, let alone two!

challenge myself to a Frugal February
Challenge!

Frugal February as a ‘semi-starving’ student to be shall mean:
No more yarn purchases.. really there won’t be time to craft/knit anyway!

Reduce my eating out.. seriously with the cost of tuition, books, and yep even parking at the University, and all that school entails, I need to be much much more frugal! So it is time to get serious about packing my lunch, snacks, etc daily!

I’m tracking my spending for the remainder of the month. Some things I can’t do without, but the ‘extras’ the latte factor is going to be reduced significantly!!

Create a new blog
Done!

While I won’t be posting the link here.. I have started a blog (again), and it felt great. I didn’t realize just how much I have missed this. It is fun, and a great way to connect to friends and your community!
