...where your muscles fatigue to the point of failure at 8 to 12 repetitions, puts your bones under the stress you need in order to regrow, maintain, and build their density.
Things that can cause osteoarthritis (deterioration of the cushioning between the bones) include bad posture, overuse, heredity, obesity, lack of vitamins C and D, and the lack of calcium.
...can be accomplished by showing someone something they’ve never seen, done, or tasted before. Roasting Brussels sprouts for someone who thought she didn’t much care for them, or showing someone a new yoga pose, or introducing someone to a new part of town all fall in this category for me: I rediscover it as they discover.
So am I. Which is why finding a book on all of my city’s (and vicinity’s) parks and beaches makes it interesting to discover more of something that I thought I already knew plenty about. Walking to new places (and in new places) is bound to reignite that feeling of discovery even while remaining in known territory.
I have never gone inner tubing, and I found the experience to be exhilarating. Nothing like doing stuff like this to bring out the inner kid. :-)
.
No better way to stretch one’s brain than doing stuff one feels completely incompetent in… And that’s what I’m doing, on week two of a four week drawing class I signed up for…
which I had never had a chance to explore and figuring out public transportation to get there and back on a regular basis. For having lived her for 21 years, it’s nice to have a whole new part of town to discover. Definitely creating new brain dendrites.
Is as simple as it feeling easy and right. In every area. Not that it doesn’t require adjustments on each person’s part, but even those still feel easy and right. Didn’t read this in a book. I just came to the experiential awareness of this after so much effort….
Bones are in fact organs, as dynamically changing as, for instance, the liver, except that they have the ability to regenerate themselves, whereas most other organs have limited abilities in that respect.
“The emotional parts of the brain have strong links with the parts of the brain that store memories. Events that trigger powerful emotions such as fear or joy form especially vivid, photographic memories. That’s why you can probably remember far more details about your last birthday then you can about the day afterward.”
Some years for me seem to pass very fast. Others seem to pack 3 years’ worth in a single year. This year was one of the latter categories. A relationship of several years ended, I had two other short lived ones, I moved, my mother died, her house sold, I wrote a new novel, I went to Canada, I went to Hawaii, I went to Malaysia, I sold my timeshare, I lost a phone that had a bunch of family pictures in it, I started exercisingmore than I’ve ever done before in my life, and I am publishing my first book. Note to self: to extend my life even further, I should have more years like this one. :-)
... so if you blow yours, doctors can recreate it from just a few cells…. kind of amazing, if you think about it, although lizards can regrow their tail without having health insurance. :-)
And one of the things that the author emphasizes is that in order to attract into our lives the kind of experiences that we want to, it is very important to feel good as often as possible: that is, to change whatever emotional state arises from a thought or a judgement into an emotional state of openness and wellbeing. In other words, a choice to go for a pleasurable experience as much as possible throughout the entire day. It’s an intriguing thought, and one that cannot be readily proved nor disproved, but I am willing to give it a try, since there is no downside… And it might actually make for a more enjoyable life if nothing else.
I could not find a measurement for the recommended l d l cholesterol ( this is the unwanted type of cholesterol). But according to the book that I am reading, you want and hdl cholesterol above forty. And a glucose level lower than 100 milligrams per deciliter. Promptly went to check the last tests that I did, 3 years ago, and I am happy to see that all of my results fall well within these guidelines. I exercise a lot more than I get back then, so I would expect my own readings now would be even better.
Is a great way to spend 30 minutes waiting for the renewal of one’s driver’s license. If I find “opportunities” like this in these chunks of time, this goal will take care of itself… :-)
...to actually build strength… And lunges, squats, vitamin d and calcium reduce the risk of osteoporosis. This is from a book I am reading right now. Very interesting. I had heard about exercising the muscles to fatigue from the standpoint of exercise enthusiasts , but I have never actually seen this in a medical book.
Last year my friend gave me a 35 pound kettlebell she wasn’t using anymore as a gift for my birthday. I’ve used it extensively and continue to get work-out value from it on a weekly basis. So, returning the favor, for her birthday I gave her a fancy mp3 player with speakers and a large memory card such that her entire (and extensive) music collection can fit in it. It wasn’t new: I just didn’t use it anymore as it’s been supplanted by my cell phone and its large memory. So, two things good: something that serves her… And one less item of ownership for me.
It dawned on me last night that the reason why I have a hard time getting to bed early is because I’m actually avoiding some of the left-over, nagging tasks (piddly though they may be) and prefer to watch a film or read or other things instead of closing things down and head to bed.
In a peaceful, clean, uncluttered environment, I’m far more likely to make the right choice… whether that’s going to bed at the right time or choosing to learn instead of plain entertainment.
