So, next summer I’m doing an internship with my church. I will eventually go on staff with this church and it will be my full-time job. But, in order to do that I need to raise the money for my salary. So, I need to raise about $9,000. I need lots of generous people to help me. If you pray and your read this…would you pray for me?
I’ve spent sometime thinking about whether or not God was calling me to life-long singleness. At first, I was going to be really pissed if that was the case. I thought to myself, “Why would God do that to me?” Then, he showed me that singleness is not only not a burden but a gift. Paul says,
“Now concerning the betrothed,I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. I think that in view of the present distress it is good for a person to remain as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that.” -1 Corinthians 7:25-28.
Paul makes a good point here, if we marry we will have more problems. But, I have come to the conclusion that I do desire marriage. Here’s why: How great would it be to have a companion that wants to listen to how your day was, or what you’re learning, or encourage your growth with the Lord. I desire to be in ministry with my husband and glorify God through our relationship.
I think this would take loving that person in a selfless way. To me this means: caring about their troubles over my own, focusing on how I can love them (not how can they love me?), How can I serve in the marriage (not how can I be served?) This is an area that I’m excited to have in my life.
It would be a joy to lay down my life for another person that I trust and love.
