I did this! I used the dog sweater pattern from Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation, and random worsted acrylic. The pattern wanted you to use a hand-wash only wool, which seems… unrealistic, in a dog sweater. I pondered a superwash wool, but you’d still have to treat it as wool, and I just couldn’t see it working.
So, acrylic it was, even though I worried that this might make it not-so-warm. I knit the entire thing on needles a size smaller than suggested, to give it at least a little extra denseness to help make the acrylic fabric warmer, and it seems fairly toasty to me, but then I’m not a dog.
This was not my favorite-ever pattern. It contained quite a bit of shaping for what is basically an all-stockinette sweater for a dog, and the finishing requires both seaming and picking up over a hundred stitches along the edge (neither of these are activities I enjoy very much. Heh.)
But it does look quite cute in the final analysis. Now I just hope it actually, you know, fits the dog, and is a little warm for the little guy.
