Everything has to be aligned just so. Objects in my environment, once set in place, must remain that way…there’s fear/dread/heart pounding if they aren’t in order. I have to avoid the area (and any tasks at my desk, for example, can only be accomplished when they are properly arranged) until they are put back in place. If I go to the library with a set of note cards, I will spend 30-45 minutes lining them up so I can read just the headings on the reverse sides. Only then can I commence studying.
Lists upon list after list, over the top note card organization, and meticulous textbook outlines. I spend more time preparing to study then I actually do studying…and by the time I feel I’m ready to get around to it, I can’t focus anymore to memorize the wonderful set of study materials I have arranged for myself. Others in my study groups are often astonished with the level of tedious preperation I employ.
I’m scrupulous with spacing and capitalization during word processing. Checking and re-checking obsessively.
The paper HAS to be reprinted if a minute-margin is misaligned. There’s severe discomfort otherwise – The heat builds up inside and I’ll erupt suddenly.
I have to count to five very quickly and verbalize the last number (like a curse word in utter exasperation), if I haven’t preformed to my standards.

I was in Ypers, Belgium, went to the museum, and saw the poppies…I decided I HAD to memorize this one:

I have to admit…going to the children’s museum with my little sisters and building a massive fort in the gigantic Lego pit is excellent fun, indeed!!!
Often, during the many camping trips I went on with my brother and sisters, we’d build forts in the forest. Actually it didn’t matter, forest or no forest, after our tent was erected, and the cookpot on the campstove, we’d scuttle off to create a structure with whatever natural elements happened to compose our environment. Pine cones, moss ball “mops,” Saragosa seaweed, rocks, bark, spanish moss, and numerous other mediums became construction materials. We always left them behind for other folks to find. They probably thought the fairies had been in attendance. :)
I remember a spectacular one I built out of driftwood with my family…to quote Longfellow: By the shores of Gitche Gumee/By the shining Big-Sea-Water,(northern shore of Lake Superior). The wind howled and thrashed our tents all night long, sometimes collapsing the flimsy material into our faces; the poles couldn’t withstand the force of their gale. I just thought the whole thing was magical, having been a fan of “The Song of Hiawatha” for the longest time!!
Redwood forests in California have to be one of my favorite natural retreats in the U.S.! It’s been six years since I last visited, and I’m still in love. You know those colossal bald cypruss trees which grow along the pretty rivers in south central Texas? Those are magnificent, too…I wish I had the pictures on this computer.
There’s a grotto built in an exact replica of Lourdes, France, in the city where I live. I often visit the sanctuary for lunch, to light a candle for a loved one, or to meditate. There are many stone benches which line the walkways. My sisters and I like to leave inspiring messages on them, like “Faith,” “Joy,” “Peace,” and “Love,” with the large acorn caps, moss balls, and twigs which litter the grounds from the magnificent old oak trees.
Once, when I visited, millions of monarch butterflies on their annual migration to sanctuaries in Mexico had paused for a rest. This was an incredible sight to behold; anyone who has experienced God’s artistic prowess in the fluttering orange wings knows exactly what I’m talking about. There were so many of them, the trunks and limbs of the trees seemed to “breathe” as the butterflies clung to them in a restless dance.
Don’t miss taking an airboat ride; you’ll have a blast! It’s an incredible way to become immersed in this unique watery environment.
