I’ve managed to avoid posting about this goal.

As it turns out, I’ve moved since I first took on this goal, but I still have an artsy college nearby where I could model for. During the next semester, I’ll likely be taking this one a bit more seriously.

graduate from college
Untitled 1 month ago

Why has this taken me so long?! I’m in my sixth year of university and nothing to really show for it. However, there seems to be a glimmer of hope ahead: I may have a degree in the (all but useless) Classics in May. If that happens, I think some “reward” may be in store—a trip to see a good friend in Connecticut. But there will be no magical career-type job waiting for me after this. No, I will go for another semester and get something of value: Mathematics, to one day (I can only hope) teach, or perhaps worm my way into law school. I can only guess there is more schooling in my future.

teach (at least for a short time) in a small community in Michigan's Upper Pennisula.
Untitled 2 months ago

Is there any other type of community in the UP than a small community? Ideally, I would work in Baraga/L’Anse, Marquette/Munising, or Houghton/Hancock for perhaps a 2 year stint before going back South to be with family in the Toledo area.

One thing out there that is rather impressive to me is the new electronic Rubik’s cube. Look at this.

create a list of desirable traits to have one day as a "man" (not just an 'adult male').
Untitled 2 months ago

This is a bit odd, but I would like a list of such traits. Maybe one day having them numbered on some scale of importance.

Right now, though, I think the list needs place a place to start.

Know how to mix at least 3 drinks/cocktails
Always have the materials to make those 3 cocktails on hand
Know how to cook 3 ethnically/culturally accurate dishes from scratch
Know when to call a professional/expert
Support a charity of personal sentiment
Always have a room/bed available for a traveling friend
Always have access to a decent bottle of wine and a bouquet of flowers
Always be firm but fair as a guardian (over your own or others’ children)
Have breakfast made for any over night guests (or at least once a month, a big family breakfast)

As I think of them, I’ll continue to list them and work them into some sort of list. If there is anyone out there who might be “listening” to this, feel free to comment, letting me know what could be changed or added.

make a Jack Skellington costume for Halloween and wear it after learning how to walk on stilts (read all 8 entries…)

Again, I think this one is not going to happen this year. I unfortunately am concentrating (perhaps too intently) on my goal “Graduate College” right now. Rest assured, though: I shall one day accomplish this goal. Perhaps the year after school is done, I can spend it figuring out how to piece it all together.

grow the balls to shave my head.

Alright, so I’ve thought about this one more than is likely healthy. I think if I were not to go to Canada this weekend, I shall shave my head. It’s time for a change.

mix at least 10 cocktails. Not just mix them, but mix them well. So well, in fact, that people ask for my cocktails specifically.
Manhattan Week 3 months ago

Given that this is the end of my own personal “Manhattan Week”, I feel that this has become a goal worth pursuing. After a fair drink (simple Canadian Club, TJ’s Sweet, and Angostura), a second, and finally a bastardized martini, I think (to the best of my thinking abilities) that learning to make at least a few drinks is an important skill.

Oddly enough, I have an uncle who is a staunch believer in the same idea: a man should know at least 3-5 drinks exceptionally well. His consist of a “Bloody Mary” (because everyone knows there’s is best), the Margarita (because what summer gathering is complete without one?) and a final drink of one’s own choosing. Frankly, this is actually a pretty good idea: all meals are covered with this method (Mary mornings, Margarita lunch and a dinner/night-cap finalizes the evening).

As for me, I think I would like to learn about (and therefore learn to mix well) are some of the classics: the Manhattan, Gin/Vodka Martini, Bloody Mary, Margarita, Tom Collins, B-52, Negroni, Cosmopolitan, Sex on the Beach, and the Godfather/Godmother.

I’m more than willing to take on new drinks for this.

As for new items, I likely will need to pick up a few “special glasses” and a shaker.

No, this isn’t a goal for this moment in time. Instead, I need to focus on other goals. This will be put on the back-burner for a time.

Promote the idea of Flying Spaghetti Monster. (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 3 months ago

I’m not sure what it is, exactly, that I’m supposed to be doing. I suppose a fair way to “promote” FSMism would be to pass around the bible. In all honesty, I don’t know if this is really a goal I wish to pursue in the traditional sense. I suppose the best way going is just mentioning. But more than that, actually pushing the “agenda”, would be something I loath and am loathe to do.

Perhaps this has opened my eyes to a better concept: to not be an ass about such personal matters as religion and spirituality. Those who know me understand my pompous nature and even I recognize that it will accomplish little—except maybe aggravating and (hopefully) a tinge of enlightenment.

Thus, I deem this goal closed. Maybe accomplished, likely not, but, regardless, it has come to a place where it cannot move forward except through force.

Promote the idea of Flying Spaghetti Monster. (read all 2 entries…)
For me, it's not law 14 months ago

For those of you whom have not heard of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, take a quick look over at the church’s website www.venganza.org.

Why I think this is important is because it brings into light (in a satirical manner) the idea of “Intelligent Design”. Personally not being a fan of “Intelligent Design” as a science, Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) offers another (again, in jest) option for creation. Again, neither is meant to treated as a science, but it could be.

After this satire, there is the fact that we can watch a religion start. Being of the mind who thinks that religion springs forth as a result of some sort of oppression, FSM started when Intelligent Design was forced into the school where it would be taught as a science. Now, FSM is a recognized religion and will continue to “flourish”; all the while, people (I would imagine psychologists and theologists) will be able to see how religion germinates, sprouts and propagates.

We’ll see where this goes…

I’ve been doing this for about a year, year and a half. I’ll actually be moving off into “big people” Greek soon with Plato’s The Apology of Socrates. Let’s hope I don’t drown…

Untitled 2 years ago

I have to admit that on the whole it was very good. I’m looking forward to discussing this with you, ScorpioNerve.

I have to say that I was disappointed with both the climactic battle and the end being somewhat unresolved. I understand that a few more short stories will be released and that it was about Lyra’s and Will’s blossoming love, but I wanted something closing.

I suppose I’ll be off to finding the next book in series. Any guesses for the next book? I’m game for anything.

Requiescat In Pace 2 years ago

we had to put rap down this [Friday] afternoon.

rap was scheduled for his annual shots and blood work
for his kidney medication today. i went home to get
him to bring him to the office before his appointment
and he could not walk very well. he had been having
increasing difficulty walking over the past two weeks.
he was eating well but drinking so much it was very
noticeable. anyway, after i put rap in the car he
could not get up at all. i rushed him to the vets.

rap was dehydrated and his kidneys were clearly
failing. the vet said another shot of prednisone
would not do him much good and probably aggavate his
failing kidneys. according to the vet, rap looked to
be uncomfortable and the likelihood of any quality of
life was nil.

i called [your sister] from school and we were both with him
at the end. i couldn’t bear to bring him home so i
let the vet take care of the body.

i’m sorry. i thought i would write and let you digest
this before we talked. he was a great dog and was
nearly 13. the folks at the vet never gave him a
chance for the two plus years he lasted after he first
went lame. we were lucky to have him as long as we
did.

I’m actually about done with this.

Is there anyone who will toss some sentences around with me on this site? I have a limited vocabulary so I’m likely to make a stretch with phrases.
