My grandmother makes the best buttermilk biscuits I’ve ever tasted. We called them cat-head biscuits growing up because of the shape of each biscuit as they were pulled out of the cast iron skillet she baked them in. They are drop biscuits, made with whole butter milk (bavarian style), oil and flour. I don’t think she has ever measured an ingredient in them a day in her life, but they are always a consistently irresistable stable at her breakfast or supper table. I’ve watcher her make these things a hundred times or more. Sifting flower, welling her ingredients and expertly crafting each biscuit by hand as she yells at kids in the other room or gabs about her day. She was hardly looking at what she was doing but she never missed a beat.
I, on the other hand, have been trying to make these same biscuits since I was about 12 with varying levels of success. From the hockey pucks of my formative years to the close-but-no-cigar replicas of late. Alas, I persist and I recently made her buttermilk biscuits for my cousin, sister, and their families. I used melted butter instead of oil, AP flour with added leavening, and of course whole buttermilk. They were…. ok, I thought, a really great biscuit but not quite the warm, delicate, crispy and slightly tangy biscuits of my childhood.
They were a hit among spouses and children that didn’t grow up on Granny’s cooking. But of the two votes that counted; my cousin says the biscuits aren’t like Granny’s (he’s right) and my sister says I’m really close. Still trying.

How I did it: Contacted a lawyer in my area offering a cheap filing process. Handed over all of my financial information to him and filled out a 45 page packet for him. Paid him $1300.00 and let him go to work. Appeared before an arbitrator in a hearing several months later to affirm the informaiton I had submitted to my lawyer. Received judgement papers in the mail a few months later. Check my credit report to ensure no negative accounts had remained … Read how I did it…
How I did it: Went to Ross Dress For Less, Lane Bryant, and Shoe Show. All stores in Pensacola Florida for a grand total of about $450. Still need a few items (coat, boots) but I'm going to hold out for pieces I love. Yep! Read how I did it…
How I did it: After several financial let downs in my career; including loss of a business in 2008 after the market crash, loss of a public service job with the BP oil spill and filing for bankrupcy moving back home wasn't just an option, it was my only option. I've been searching for the right job/fit for my next career move and the economy I was in (Florida's Gulf Coast) was not supporting my experience or skill set. So I left. Sold my car, and most … Read how I did it…

Made the decision and hired the attorney last week. He shook my hand took my money and handed me a packet of paperwork that is supposedly going to set me free. Seems like a nice man, and said that my situation was a simple one, so fingers crossed this process will be effective and liberating.
I accomplished this on Jan. 20 2009, my official quit date. I acutally quit a few days prior, but gave myself some leeway. I haven’t touch a cigarette since, and I am feeling better everyday. Tempting moments are few and far between, and usually diet related. As long as I’m not hungry or over-eating (prior triggers) I am nic free! Waiting for the 3, and 6 month milestones. I’ll keep you posted!
