How I did it: I looked for a high-yield, online-only savings account. ING Direct has this awesome family & friends referral program, so I visited a personal finance blog to find someone who had a link. The referral program is great- you sign up and open a savings account with $250 and get $25 deposited to your account, just by using a friend's referral link. They also get a $10 deposit as a thank-you. So far, 4 "friends" have also signed up with my… Read how I did it…
Every weekend I want to clear out one corner in one room. This may mean simply putting things where they belong, organizing a pile of stuff, or trashing everything in it. Corners of rooms are where most junk accumulates, in my house. Book cases, linen closets, literal corners in the kitchen, etc.
Last weekend, I worked on a corner in the computer room. There were piles of papers that were in my ‘in’ box, but were not yet filed. There were 3 bathroom bags with random items in each, from traveling in the last several months. I filed both piles of papers, tossed a lot more trash, consolidated the 3 toiletry bags into a main one (plus extra items stored in the second one), stored the toiletry bags where they belonged, and ended up with a new, 2-foot strip of empty space on the carpet where I can walk without tripping.
From the last time I wrote, I had the narrow perspective of only focusing on paying off my cards. My point of view has broadened since then, to include all my debts.
I have accomplished a few things:- paid off the car (hers)
- paid off the truck (his)
- paid off 1 of 2 education loans
- paid off 2 of 5 credit cards
My main focus is still paying off the cards, however. That’s why I haven’t changed this goal.
