Subversion took some experimentation and study for me to get comfortable with it. Getting in the routine of opening my work sessions with an update and ending it with a checkin has made the time I spend working at home definitively more productive.
I built aviationcharts.com, a chart subscription management application in Rails and integrated in Google Maps to display chart coverage areas. It took a couple of months and I am still refining some interface items and adding new features, but I think it would have not turned out as well as it has without the multiplicative force of Rails.
After finding out that my thyroid is essentially dead, I have been taking a synthetic hormone replacement. Hypothyroidism was the central cause of ailments generating a plethora of prescriptions treating depression, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Now I just need to kick those medications in an organized and non-destructive manner. Dropping Zoloft was a huge relief, now I look forward to 9 more.
While in ORL on business in April 2002, my boss and I heard that the shuttle would be launching late one afternoon—even watching from a parking lot roughly 10-15 miles south of KSC was a trip. The furious outlay of energy required to exit the atmosphere is stunning, even at that range.
