I’ve never financed a vehicle, always pay cash. A repair shop had an accident with my last truck, and I used the settlement to put a down on my current vehicle. I have a great interest rate, but regardless, it’s still a payment. I’m way ahead in equity in the truck, so I’m going to sell. The equity will afford a used Jeep Wrangler for cash, and won’t depreciate much. I’ll have more monthly income freed up for debt reduction.

This should be my main goal, but I need to get my debt down and get a downpayment together. Rent has been, by far, the single biggest waste of money in my life. Young people – if you learn one thing by reading other people’s goals – stay living with your parents as long as you can stand it, and save up every cent you can to make a downpayment. Even if you can only afford a shithole, it’s yours. And the money you pay every month goes into your property. Also, it’s one of the few tax-deductible interest items left out there. Later, when you are earning more, you can move up the ladder of home quality affordably.
I’ve lifted since my teen years, and I’ve built a pretty good base. I’ve kept most of my strength, but my endurance has suffered. I reached my peak fitness level when I was about 30, and I know I can get back to that and keep it. What worked best for me was a workout partner. You keep each other focused on the goal, and you feel guilty if you try to skip. Also, there’s always a little friendly competition so you push harder.
