become a runner
Couch to 5K 16 months ago

I have been following the Couch to 5K plan from CoolRunning.com for far longer than the 9 weeks they suggest, and it’s worked really well. Has anyone else used this? Robert Ullrey has put out some good podcasts that go along with the plan too on iTunes.

Stop buying things from Wal-Mart (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 16 months ago

I have done this for one month, no stepping foot into Walmart. It’s been fabulous! I’m planning to keep this up indefinitely, so I’m marking this as “done.” Totally worth it!

Ok, one month later, and I haven’t stepped inside a Walmart! It’s been really great, and I don’t miss it at all. I’m looking at keeping this up indefinitely, so it’s marked as “done.”

Read all the books on my to read list (read all 2 entries…)
Editing 16 months ago

I have decided to basically start over on my “to read” list. It’s grown out of control, and my tastes have changed since I started keeping the list. There are a lot of books on the list that are “junk” books, and so they are just taking up wasted space on my list. I think cutting those out, and paying more attention to the books that I add, will help me keep my list more manageable.

Get organized
Untitled 17 months ago

Everyone seems to think that I am highly organized, because I have a planner and actually use it. However, I find that a lot of times I sit and stare at my planner and realize I am too damn busy to feel like I am organized.

So I don’t wear it like this everyday, but it’s really fun for special occasions!

write a haiku every day for a year (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 17 months ago

I did not do very well getting started on this. I think rather than forcing myself to be creative, especially at a time in my life when I am extremely busy, I will focus on letting it come on its own. I’d love to start doing morning pages, but at this time it’s just too much. Maybe I need to add “learn to say no” or “learn when to say it’s enough” to my list. I’ll “give up” on this one for right now.

Started 33 ... 17 months ago

I started #33 today, “Manic” by Terri Cheney … I’m well on my way. I’m hoping to read a lot in the next month to make up for this fall when I’ll be busy with classes.

Starting today, I am not going to go to Wal-Mart for one month. Hopefully longer, but I’m going to start small. That place just causes way too much stress for me.

Plan: Boycott for one month 17 months ago

Yesterday I just got fed up with Wal-Mart. It’s always out of control when I go there, and when I absolutely need something they don’t have it. I’ll miss walking around and looking at all the fun stuff they have, but my sanity is more important.

I’m going to not shop at Wal-Mart for one month, and hopefully longer.

write a haiku every day for a year (read all 2 entries…)
Untitled 18 months ago

I’m planning on starting this on my birthday this year – July 18. I think it’s a good way to mark my 24th year. I plan to have each haiku represent that particular day, maybe an event that happened or how I felt.

write a haiku every day
Untitled 18 months ago

I plan to start this on my birthday this year, July 18. I’d like my daily haikus to represent that particular day. I could write about an event that happened that day, how I felt. I think it would be a creative way to catalog my 24th year on this planet.

Well... 18 months ago

After a few false starts, I am really wanting to start this seriously on my birthday this year, July 18. I think this would be a fun and creative way to catalog my 24th year on this planet.

I’m also thinking of drawing something every day and writing a haiku every day, something that represents my day – events that happened, how I felt.

draw every day
I used to 18 months ago

I used to always be drawing (well, when I wasn’t reading), and I really miss it. I have a couple sketchbooks and I will draw something here and there, but I don’t do it as a leisure activity anymore.

Right now I am working on improving my photography through Project 365, and I’m starting that fresh on my birthday (July 18). I think I might try to do a sketch every day too. I’m also toying with the idea of writing a haiku everyday that kind of represents that day – something that happened, how I felt. Maybe all three is taking on too much?

get in shape
Untitled 18 months ago

Ha, here I am googling how to get motivated to exercise. That’s not odd all by itself, but the fact is I just baked a dozen banana chocolate chip muffins. Yes, they are vegan, but vegan does not always mean healthy. Guess I’ll try to limit myself to one (for today at least) and work out that much harder.

... After you get one, you just want more. I already have my next four planned out, but I’m not sure when I will get them!

Liking myself 18 months ago

Another of my goals is to love myself more. I’ve always been one to downplay my strengths and good qualities, and I wish I would stop doing that. Being able to see myself in pictures without groaning inside would be nice!

I just added this to my list because right now I should be reading for my class. But instead I’m on 43 Things.

learn to sew
I'm learning! 18 months ago

I bought myself a sewing machine in November 2007, and since then I have made several pillow covers, two fairly simple bags, and some beanbags. I really enjoy it, and hopefully when I have a bit more time for it, I will pick up some more advanced things. I am in the process of making a yoga top, refashioned from a men’s fleece sweatshirt. I’ve found that making my own things doesn’t really save me money, but I take so much pride in something I have made to my own specifications.

Travel to Paris, France.
A beautiful city 18 months ago

I visited Paris in March 2007 with my husband and my younger sister, and we had an amazing time. Even though it was cloudy and rainy for much of the trip, we loved walking around the city, taking the Metro, and sitting in cafes. If you get the chance – take it!
