To help test gems on as many platforms as possible, you can run a tinderbox on your own machine.
Firebrigade tests every gem ever made on every platform under the sun and summarizes the results, enabling developers to see how their packages perform on systems they don’t have access to.

RubyConf is easily the best conference I have attended. I am engaged from 8am until 2am for three full days. It is chock full of good presentations, good people, and good after-hours code-fests. Well worth my money and time.
RubyConf2005 was very Rails oriented, but this year they returned to Ruby in general.
