1. Guilds are terribly important unless you know ppl on the srvr (in which case its more like an impromptu guild)—-Fun though to run through DM in 18mins..
2. If you know no one. Be a warrior or priest. Every party wants a warrior, and every part wants a priest. You’ll get tons of whispers. DON’T be a hunter. For some reason, nbody seems to like them.
3. on your main.. do 2 gathering professions. Skinning/mining are the best. mining can find you tons of cool stuff, and skinning.. well you killed it anyway.. why not skin it?
4. TRY not to get caught up in your professions. They are fun but I find myself being obsessed with gaining skill instead of killing. Carnage gains XP.. and besides if you are on and can’t do your quests.. THEN you can go farming for stuff.
—-Initially lvls should be the goal. Cause who would attack a lvl 60 skinning a field full of dead lvl 5’s? It might be boring but it would not be a problem, and gives something to do.
Instance raids gain money and good loot to give you a better chance solo. (If you do alts, this is where they get a hand) if you are priest/warrior you will be in on lots of raids. If alliance, lvl to about 20 or 22. Then camp out around the DM. You will make enough to easily up any alt you want with good gear or just cash. IMO no profession seems to give you what you want when you want it (high armor, takes a while to make.. as with weapons.. etc) So MAKING stuff is more of a job for higher lvl folk. (although if a hunter, do engineering.. the crafted shot does TONS more dmg than the bought ones)
