Lifeguard

So many people think lifeguarding is just sitting in a chair and tanning. If that is what that guard is doing they should be sued for negligence. If you want to save a life work somewhere where you know you will have a rescue. Your heart starts pounding and you don’t notice you haven’t taken a breath until your back out of the water and getting into your stand. There’s nothing like seeing someone go under the water. They look up at you and you see the panic begin and you know they’re counting on you to get them out of this momentary hell. It’s a weird rush. Most of the people you save are children and it’s gratifying. At my pool we were never thanked or told good job by our boss. But you knew you made a difference when the parents thanked you or when your walking by a group of kids and you hear… that lifeguard saved someone! If you want to save a life, guard. But if that doesn’t seem plausible for you at this time one of the best things you can do for someone is listen.
