I got about 2.5 miles down with my mother when we decided to turn around. We were supposed to stay at Phantom Ranch that night, but after realizing that it was around 120 degrees at the bottom, that we were slow and that we really didn’t want to have to hike OUT in those temps … we turned around. Still a great experiance, though!
Last time I shifted a car was when I was … oh, maybe six and my father would direct me as to when to do it. I am now nineteen and my older brother just gave me my first lesson. Apparently I did well – much better than his girlfriend, at least. We’re driving from Alaska to the East Coast and our respective colleges (in PA and VT) in just under two weeks. If not before, by the end I should be a pro!
I hope I was a great one. My mentees really were extremely capable and didn’t need much assistance, but I tried to do what I could, keep them updated and let them know that I was there for them. Aw, I loves ‘em all.
Totally worth it. This summer I got paid for sewing quilts, and I’m just finishing up a paid design internship. My paychecks are technically freelance pay, which makes me absurdly happy.
It’s been a good experiance, and I actually learned stuff! AfterEffects WILL bow down to me.
Well, I used some of the gold ones on a nebula-inspired jacket for my line of celestial outerwear for the fall fashion show. I feel like that was a good and proper use of the little buggers.
For now, at least. Currently reading “Spook” by Mary Roach. Just finished “Running with Scissors” by Augusten Burroughs. Also, lots of graphic novels on my plate. Excellent.
Compared to last term, I feel like I’m doing much better. So, awesome! I can still work on it, though. Always something to be improved upon. Also, it’s too broad of a goal title—next time I’ll narrow it down (“eat fewer cookies” or whatever).
Well, I’ve been working on it! I tried to call my friend Josh this morning, but I forgot about the 4 hour time difference, and woke him up. Oops.
Got my list of mentees today!! No way to contact them, though. Hopefully they’ll be getting their little cards with my info, and they’ll take the time to drop me a line.
I went to some stores, looked around, was miserable, wasn’t sure of my sizing, didn’t like the styles, and left in a Bad Mood. I just now ordered online from Victoria’s Secret, beacause they’re having a sale. We don’t have a VS store in Alaska, so I’ve never owned anything by them. But I hear they have excellent quality products (I should think, with their rep!), so I’m willing to give them a try. I’m even willing to pay the stupid shipping fees for Alaska if it’ll save me the trouble of going into another store. And, like I said, Sale!
Haven’t hosted a large-scale one, yet, but I’ve managed to hook quite a nice number of people. My friends have taken to inviting themselves over with a, “Well, we wanted to see you. ... And watch Firefly.”
Not only do people love having photos, but it encourages them to write me letters over the summer. Sneaky sneaky!
Going to college makes it a little difficult, because I’m in different states at different times, and giving blood during finals week is a bad idea (I’ve done that … Not Worth It, says I. Especially not directly before dance class, heh). But trying to do it as often as possible is definately a great feeling. Plus, depending on where you donate, free shirt!
I have an amazing trenchcoat I bought at Salvation Army for $3. I really should get a fedora, but the coat with proper shirt and slacks is close enough. Oh, and I need to get a gun holster, too. Just for the fun of it.
Blargh. I’ve wanted to do this for ages, and my mother and I finally made reservations at the bottom, for the 6th. Stuff came up, and now we’re not going. Le sigh. Maybe next year?

I’ve done it before, and it was a blast. This time around people said they were coming, and never did. But the book release itself was fun.
Well, I orginized it all, and – basically – nobody showed. People just flaked out on me. But I did finish my costume, and helped Jasmine finish hers as well. Check it out: Ford Anglia and Whomping Willow. XD We got a mention in the local paper for it, too.
