I’m a 28yr old skilled bartender from Scotland & desperately want to live and work in Manhattan.
I will have enough money saved by march 2009, and then venture over, my plan is to live and work in manhattan for no less than two years.
I want the flexibility of being able to go back to Scotland if necessary (my bro will be getting married within next 2 yrs)
therefore being an illegal is not really an option, but post 9/11 is proving visa’s/entry etc to be very difficult especially for my trade.

I have a few questions;
  • How difficult/what exactly do i have to do to work legally in the USA
    *does anyone know any good relevant rental websites/flatshare options etc
    *Is anybody in my position and want to do this near the same time.
    *has anybody done this recently, any advice, experiences.
    *what are the legal ramifications of working without a visa etc….

Any and all advice would be grateful, i am deadly serious about doing this, i have a real love/infatuation with the bar industry and will if necessary waive any visa requirements if i have to but sincerely want to do it legally as i think i could really make a life in NYC, at least for a few years…and do not want to get refused re-entry for defaulting on visa.
