Untitled 10 months ago

Baby on the way means aquarium empty is going to have to stay!

Still, a baby’s pretty exciting too, right?

Lose 10 pounds (read all 2 entries…)
Umm... 1 year ago

Yeah, so this is pretty much a disaster! I have no willpower.

use moodle
It's up! 1 year ago

So I’m getting closer to this goal. I installed Moodle on a snappy new virtualized server at my school. I’m not sure that this counts as ‘using moodle’ I have to create my courses & have my students comlplete the first week of class. But I think I will avoid having to “hit my head on a wall”

Lose 10 pounds (read all 2 entries…)
Ok, this week I'm serious. 1 year ago

So, you’ve probbably heard this story before. I used to be really good at this weightwatchers thing. Actually, my wife and I both dieted before our wedding. Of course I infuriated her by immediately dropping 20 pounds like it was nothing. Of course, you can’t tell her it is because I had 30 more pounds to lose. . . I was 210, maybe 215 before the wedding. In about four months I was down to 177. I felt pretty awesome, I bought clothes in a medium. I NEVER thought I would buy a shirt in m. But I realized that that was what really fit. Anyway, fast forward the better part of nine months & you can guess what happened to the diet.

So, I’m getting back on the wagon, we both are. (I need it way worse than her) Unfortunately, I keep trying, but I just can’t seem to stick to it. . . I really believe in the whole exercise and portion control bit; after a while you don’t even get hungry anymore. Anyway, here’s to starting up the diet again this week.

be more active
Be more active?? What did I even mean? 1 year ago

My wife said something the other day, “I want us to be one of those active families. . . ” I got to thinking, why do we just sit around when other, more fun thing are easier and cheaper to do. When we have kids, I definitely want to do the whole hiking & biking routine. It is good for kids, especially as they grow up with so many temptations to do just the opposite.

I guess my personal goal is just to be in-shape. I’m not sure if I’ve ever really been in shape. I’m not inactive. I ride my bike to work a lot, it used to be by choice and then my car died! Some days it is rough getting up the hills in the morning, but for the most part, the days where I ride six miles out and six home are among the days that I feel the best. What is strange is that I was much more willing to ride when I had the option of driving. Now, it can be a drag.

I’d love to be one of those people who can pop right up in the morning and jet out with the dogs and then go on with the rest of the day. I’m not a morning person. Especially when I’ve got to cycle to work in an hour.

finish my portfolio
Done . . for now 1 year ago

I realize that finishing a portfolio is sort of a silly idea. If you stop doing things worth putting into a portfolio, then why bother showing up at all. I suppose I’m done for now in the sense that I fulfilled the requirements in the eyes of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania to keep my teaching certification.

I decided to make this an online endeavor since that way I can keep it current, it’s not just a binder taking up space & this way the portfolio really becomes one of its own artifacts. I’m supposed to be this tech-wizard teacher, I might was well live up to the reputation I’ve generated.

I’m sure this will become a Thing again around this time of year, when someone is waiting with bated breath to sign off on some state paperwork. I wonder if the hours of effort will be reflected in the evaluation.

In the end I was really happy with the format & organization of the documents. It is all behind a password protected zone, but I think lots of it should be accessible. For now I’ll keep it the way I have it.
