I had my drumming debut in public on Sunday March 29th at the Newman Center 7pm mass. It was so much fun!
It started with registering my two sons into drum classes at the Seattle Drum School. It turned out that the youngest wasn’t really ready for it, but I had paid for the entire month, so I said, I’d sit in his place—and I love it and I’m going to continue!
I’ve got TWO arcylic paint sets that I’ve received in 2006 as gifts that are collecting dust on my shelf together with the brushes and canvas frames. I also received a wonderful book entitled, “Celebrate Your Creative Self” by Mary Todd Beam—The excuse I’ve been using is that I don’t have an easel to start painting =] (lame I know) I’m hoping 2007 will see the start of some actual celebration!
For some inspiration, check out www.YouTube.com and seach for “cajon”. There are a bunch of really cool videos of various folks who are awesome on the Cajon! I especialy like jkatizzle’s video, check it out:

BTW, was up till 3am yesterday banging away on my new cajon, can’t say if I’m any good at it, but I was having fun! Found out that Arturo here in Seattle is offering cajon lessons to any group of at least 4 people!

I first saw and heard the cajon at a trade show where one of the booths had some live music: a vocalist, a guitarist and a cajonist(?). The sound that they were producing was amazing! Since then I’ve wanted to learn how to play the cajon, and I’ve finally bit the bullet this Christmas and bought myself a present. It just arrived today, and here goes nothing! From what I’ve read in reviews at musiciansfriend.com, folks have said that the Schalloch is a decent sounding box for the price—a recommended starter instrument. I can’t tell the difference, but it sounds good enough for me!
