When I was finishing up grad school, I leaned hard on my credit cards and then did not get a job as quick as I thought I would. Things got behind, I got a very demanding job, then, before I knew it, I was in trouble. A friend helped bail me out. Since then, I have managed to reduce my debt considerably. I have a house payment (which I have doubled up on), and my student loan, and a private loan (almost paid off). That is it. I was going to have everything paid off in 7 years, but the interest on my student loan is so low that it seems silly. So, I was going to have my house paid off in five years, but I just quit my job. I think it was the right decision, but it isnt going to help me with my goals for a while. I guess that really makes my goal something more like not getting in any more debt…. I really am rambling arent I ??

Right now, I feel that it was worth doing (my last day is May 31). I have alternately between ectasy and excitement and fear and worry. But the excitement over changing the direction of my life is winning out. Leaving a large number of people that I really care about is hard. But I think it was the right decision. I turned in my notice on a Thursday and then had the best and most productive weekend I had had in ages. Cleaned out closets, threw away crap, went through papers and basically dealt with all kinds of stuff that had been bugging me. So, I am thinking that quitting is what I needed to do.
I was very lucky, I found exactly what I wanted. However, I knew what I wanted and told everyone I knew. One day, a few months later, a guy I work with told me his wife was a real estate agent and she was putting a sign up on property nearby that I might like. I went and looked at it over my lunch break and told the agent I wanted it. Before the afternoon was over, there were two more offers. But I was first!! And it was perfect, bordering a state park, near a river, and with a historic house. Large oak trees, room for a garden, and CHEAP.
My advice: Decide what you want. Fantasize freely. Tell everyone. Be ready to pounce when the universe provides. (Cheesy but true).
