I have an MBA in Finance for two reasons:
1) I wasn’t ready to get out of college and
2) I knew I wouldn’t go back and get it once out of school.
Now as I see several of my friends try and juggle a career and family with taking MBA night classes, I thank God I got it out of the way. At the very least, it helps fill wall space in your office.
You better be willing to dedicate the better part of a year to this goal. I ran the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth, TX and realized very quickly what the difference was between a half-a$$ event and well-run event. I would suggest entering a large regional or national event to ensure maximum enjoyment.
Also, this is literally a life changing event. Since this was a one-time event on my “Life List,” my body will need 1-2 years to get back to my pre-marathon equilibrium. I was always a fast-twitch muscle kind of guy, but now it seems like I pull muscles simply getting out of a chair. Training my legs and body to accomplish 26.2 miles required a drastic overhaul of what I was accustomed to, so keep that in mind as well.
Overall I’m very proud of my accomplishment. However, there are risks and sacrifices needed to run a marathon that I otherwise disregarded. This event definitely fits in my “Greater the pain, Greater the glory” category.
