Well, seeing as I was unable to get into my required capstone class on campus, I decided to drop the extra physical activities class I was taking (including capoeira) to save myself the cost of tuition. However, I’ve looked up a few reviews for some places that teach it near home. I am thankful to live in a city that has about three different capoeira schools. I’ll probably save starting this up until after my Taiko performance in October, though.

How I did it: I started my Saturday afternoon hanging out with my friend, Janet. She already has a pasta machine, which I believe she purchased at Williams-Sonoma a while back. We used a great recipe that her daughter sent us for the pasta itself. Then, we just loosely followed a spinach-ricotta recipe for the filling. It was so delicious, and took about three hours in total (starting from getting the tools out all the way to ma… Read how I did it…
How I did it: My boyfriend, Mark, surprised me with a graduation celebration date at Teatro Zinzanni. I just dressed up, and went along for the ride. However, rather than spending full price on tickets, I know that you can get half priced tickets through Goldstar Events. The show was magical, hysterical, and action-packed. Not to mention, the food was pretty tasty and had a decent vegetarian selection too. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Luckily, my school offers both a beginning and an intermediate Pilates course in the physical education department. I decided that since I was already going to be on campus for classes last quarter that this would be a good way to motivate me to take some sort of fitness class at the same time. Not to mention, I am already paying tuition so adding the Pilates course didn't cost me more than I would have already been paying.&nb… Read how I did it…

So, that one measly capstone class that I needed to take this quarter to be an “official” graduate was full. I added to the waiting list of one of the classes and was 9th on the waiting list. Thanks to stupid state school politics and funding, most of the teachers were laid off and the school did not offer enough sessions of this course to correspond with the number of graduating seniors who would be required to take it this quarter. Unfortunately, I did not make it into the class and do not want to waste my entire summer (not to mention, the tuition cost and the $200 book for the course) hoping that 9 people drop the course at some point so that I can get in and receive credit for event taking the class.
Totally discouraging. Remind me again, why did I drop everything to come back to school full time? Guess I will just try to keep myself occupied until I can get into the course for the Winter Session. I’m gonna try for the Fall Session too, but there’s a good chance I won’t be able to complete the course as I have some travel planned. Luckily, I’ve managed to squeeze in some fun things while I’m able to.
Postcards are a good way for me to work on my other goal (of limiting my internet time). Last night, I started with one to my Grandpa. It was just a quick little San Francisco postcard to update him that I’ve graduated college and wish him a Happy Father’s Day weekend. Perhaps today, I will work on getting back into the groove of the postcard sending community that I used to belong to (but have long since neglected). Seeing as it’s only 9am and I’ve already spent 16 minutes on the internet, I think postcards will be a good distraction.
