I’m going to learn the third movement of Debussy’s Children’s Corner. It’s called “Serenade for the Doll” and it sounds awesome. I can hear ideas in it that sound like influences for other music I’ve liked, like the soundtrack for the Royal Tannenbaums, or the soundtrack to the old SNES game Chronotrigger.

How I did it: I put this down as a goal a long time ago, and struggled with whether or not to keep it - goals about doing something routinely are hard to "complete", and really, this is a goal that I should never "complete" in the sense that I should never stop doing this. But really, the solution just fell into my lap. I got a new job that has an automatic payroll deduction feature. You write the ID of your favorite non-profit (in my case, a local food… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went down to a locally-owned bike shop and test-rode a bunch of different bikes on a sunny day. It was the best shopping experience of my life - and I didn't even buy anything that day! I narrowed it down to what model I wanted, did some research on it to get some other opinions, made sure it was in my budget, then came back the next Saturday to test ride it some more and have some minor adjustments made. Then... I bought it! Read how I did it…
How I did it: I used some dark-roasted organic coffee beans. Just ground them up, put them in a French press, filled with cold water, put the lid on but didn't press it, and stuck it in the fridge overnight before going on a long drive. The next morning, I pulled it out, pressed it, and poured it into a thermos. It tasted pretty mediocre, like a hot cup of coffee gone cold. The start had a slight sweetness but nothing like the crema of a good freshly-br… Read how I did it…

First practice is in a couple days. It’s going to be amazing. I have a few awesome friends that are interested. I’m going to try to solidify a core group in the next week or two, then send out broader invites to my city’s community.
It’s amazing how much money you can save by throwing money down a little bit earlier. I’ve set up my auto bill pay on my checking account to pay almost triple my regular monthly payment and plan to be done by the end of the year. If I had done something like this, even for a few months, a couple years ago while my car loan was newer, it would be ridiculously easier to do this now.
Still, the main motivating factor for me is not saving a few hundred bucks on interest, but rather removing this burden from my life sooner than later. Let’s just hope this aging bucket of bolts on wheels stays in decent shape for years to come!
