I’m going to learn the third movement of Debussy’s Children’s Corner. It’s called “Serenade for the Doll” and it sounds awesome. I can hear ideas in it that sound like influences for other music I’ve liked, like the soundtrack for the Royal Tannenbaums, or the soundtrack to the old SNES game Chronotrigger.

How I did it: I bought a car right before starting the most high-paying job I'd ever had. I figured that after a couple months of working, I'd double or triple my payment and have it paid off in no time.Well, as is generally the case in life, things didn't go as I'd planned. After hopping across a few towns and careers over the next couple years, I still had a ton left to pay off. I'm a bit settled into my current job, so I finally started increasing m… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I planned a route, made a budget, e-mailed my friends along the route, scoured the Internet for contacts, booked a bunch of shows, confirmed them, re-confirmed them, got an oil change, hopped in the car, drove 2500 miles and played around 10 shows. Tada! Tour. Read how I did it…
First practice is in a couple days. It’s going to be amazing. I have a few awesome friends that are interested. I’m going to try to solidify a core group in the next week or two, then send out broader invites to my city’s community.
It’s amazing how much money you can save by throwing money down a little bit earlier. I’ve set up my auto bill pay on my checking account to pay almost triple my regular monthly payment and plan to be done by the end of the year. If I had done something like this, even for a few months, a couple years ago while my car loan was newer, it would be ridiculously easier to do this now.
Still, the main motivating factor for me is not saving a few hundred bucks on interest, but rather removing this burden from my life sooner than later. Let’s just hope this aging bucket of bolts on wheels stays in decent shape for years to come!
