Much of the research I have been doing online claims that most folks’ bodies are deficient in the element Magnesium. It’s hard to get digestible, useable Magnesium into a person, but many of the foods we eat actively remove it from our systems. This deficiency can be a trigger for worse tics.
We have found that many parents in this situation let their kids soak in Epsom Salts baths, which allows the body to draw in Magnesium. There is also a powdered drink mix that, when mixed with water, becomes Magnesium Citrate, which is said to be in a form available to be absorbed by the body. We are already trying both things. It can’t really hurt.

I’ll be kissing my wife in the rain, under a waterfall, on a dolphin, in Illinois next. We are scouting a location. There will be pictures to prove it.

We have self-diagnosed my son with extremely mild Tourette’s syndrome for the last 4 years or so. He used to just have one or two tics at a time, and they didn’t present very often.
Over the last few weeks, coincidentally right after he got vaccinated against H1N1 flu, his tics have grown 10 times worse.
My poor 8 year old (who is a certifiable genius for his age) can now barely get through a second grade reading or writing assignment because his body makes him tic so often. It’s just painful to watch and he can’t even keep up with the slowest kids in his class.
He didn’t lose knowledge at all…he just lost his ability to move the signal from his brain to his pencil with concentration and focus. It is so frustrating for him.
My 6 year old is showing a few more tics lately too, but nothing quite as bad. I don’t know if it makes much difference, but he “only” got the regular seasonal flu vaccination shot, and NOT the H1N1.
We had a doctor appointment yesterday to get this diagnosis to be made “official”. They are running a battery of tests to rule out other possible causes of this behavior. We have a CT scan in two hours.
